This is a sterling silver English George III tankard made by Hester Bateman, (noted female silversmith), dated 1783. Shrubsole, New York & London. The original paper description label was inside when I found it, this is included in the sale. No dents or dings, no scratches or repairs. This is 6" tall and the base is 4 1/4" wide.
It is decorated on the top and handle with chased florals/leaves/wheat/hops. The hinge is tight and properly "aligned". Properly hallmarked on the lid and body. It is solid sterling silver, weighing 30.7 ounces. This could use a better polishing than what cleaning I just gave it. Found recently in a local estate here in Central Virginia. These original old tankards are becoming harder to find in this condition. Please ask questions if needed. Any white spots are camera flash reflections. I pack very well, and do not charge anything extra as "add-ons".
I do not end auctions early. I treat my customers as I would expect to be treated. This item is in the category "Antiques\Silver\Non-U. The seller is "mgb327" and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped to United States.
