Most are fabulous Georgian and just into the early Victorian period. Most are made from polished steel or brass and some are s. Terling silver / silver plate and occasionally gold mounted.

Many are set with paste stones of varying size. Some are really elaborate and outstanding rare to find these days. Most are complete with their steel hinged pins inside the buckle and some have the lever to pop them out.

There are pairs as well as single buckles. Some do have paste stones missing! This is an antique pair of Georgian sterling silver shoe clasps.

They come apart for 4 separate pieces of silver. Two of the pieces have a nice little engraved floral design on the tops and the respective paired pieces have three notches on to change the tightness of the fastening.

In the metal detecting world these are called CLOG CLASPS but they were used of shoes as well... And these being made of sterling silver are aristocratic shoes and I doubt they would be wearing clogs. They are hallmarked in their pairs for London 1797 with maker's mark PB over AB...

Which is the well known famous silversmiths family of the period Peter Bateman and Ann Bateman. The Bateman workshop was at Bunhill Row, London.

Please see pictures provided for more details and visual confirmation of condition. They are slightly bent and the fine engraved design is worn from use.

There are surface scuffs and some small impact marks. 19mm x 15mm and are almost flat, a couple have a slight curve. They weigh 11.6g in total. Scale is usually an English 1 penny coin which is 20mm in diameter which is just short of 7/8ths of an inch in diameter, or a universal Coke can, and we all know how big those are.
